A clear plastic bottle and a opaque bottle to set up two terrariums in a sunny spot. What would I observe?
I left the two terrariums in a sunny spot for two spot for a week, what would I observe after aweek?
The clear bottle should be a little cooler. It will absorb sunlight at a lower rate than the opaque bottle (i.e. more sunlight just passes through), so it will achieve equilibrium with the air at a lower temp. Both will be warmer than the air around them, though, since the rate at which sunlight pumps energy into the water will be greater than the rate at which air carries the energy away. The clear bottle, by allowing more light to pass through, will reach this balance point at a lower temperature.
