How often should I change my feeder goldfish's tank water, and why is it cloudy? ?
I have a feeder goldfish that i am using as a pet, not to feed another fish, and i recently put a white shell from the ocean(dry, of course), plastic jewels, and a piece of coral in the small bowl my fish resides in. the water has since turned cloudy. why is this? when should I change the water, and if so, can I just use tap water? Thanks!
You should change 25% of the water weekly, using a gravel siphon.
And a bowl is NOT SUITABLE for a feeder fish. Those grow up to a foot and a half long, and require AT LEAST a 55 gallon tank. PLEASE read this article explaining why bowls are bad for Goldfish: http://www.epinions.com/content_3185614980
If you place it in a smaller tank, then it will get stunted and die. Stunting is when its body stops growing but its organs don't.
The water is cloudy because you just set it up. This is most likely a bacterial bloom, which is bacteria floating around in the water, finding a place to colonize (they're good bacteria).
Plus don't put anything from the ocean into freshwater tanks. Stuff from/near the ocean raises the water hardness and pH to uncomfortable levels (for freshwater fish).
